Country resume guides
One builder, the right rules for every market
A photo is normal in Riyadh and a rejection risk in New York. Italy expects a GDPR line; Germany wants certificates; Australia accepts four pages. Choose your target country for its exact conventions — then build with them applied.
South Asia
Pakistan
CV / Resume · 1–2 pages (2 is normal for experienced professionals)
For jobs abroad, state your passport readiness and notice period.
India
Resume / CV · 1–2 pages
Large employers and startups screen with ATS software — mirror the job description's real keywords honestly.
Bangladesh
CV / Resume · 2 pages is common locally
For overseas applications, follow the destination country's format instead of the local one.
Gulf & Middle East
Saudi Arabia (KSA)
CV · 2 pages is standard (longer only if the role genuinely needs it)
Recruiters in KSA often filter on nationality, current location and transferable Iqama — put all three near the top.
United Arab Emirates (UAE)
CV · 2 pages is standard; 1 page is enough for entry-level roles
If you are on a visit/tourist visa, say so honestly with the expiry date — recruiters plan around it.
Qatar
CV · 2 pages
Energy, construction, aviation and hospitality dominate hiring — tailor your skills section to the sector's vocabulary.
Kuwait
CV · 2 pages
State your transfer status clearly — many Kuwait vacancies are open only to candidates already resident with transferable residency.
Bahrain
CV · 2 pages
Finance, telecom and aluminium/industrial sectors are major employers — sector keywords matter.
Oman
CV · 2 pages
Check whether a vacancy is open to expatriates before applying — Omanisation quotas apply in some sectors.
Europe
Germany
Lebenslauf (CV) · 1–2 pages, strictly structured and tabular (up to 3 for very senior profiles)
Order matters: one combined PDF (cover letter, CV, certificates) is the German standard.
Italy
Curriculum Vitae (CV) · 1–2 pages
End your CV with: “Autorizzo il trattamento dei miei dati personali ai sensi del D.lgs 196/2003 e del GDPR (Regolamento UE 2016/679).” This line is still widely used, but it is a convention rather than a universal requirement — follow the employer's own privacy notice or instructions where given.
United Kingdom
CV · 2 pages maximum is the usual convention
UK employers and ATS systems reward quantified achievements and exact job-title keywords.
Other European Countries
CV (Europass or national format) · 1–2 pages (Europass can run longer)
Europass (europass.europa.eu) is the EU's standard CV builder — useful for EU institutions, Erasmus-linked roles and cross-border applications. Private employers in most countries prefer a clean custom CV; use Europass when the vacancy mentions it or for public-sector applications.
North America
United States (USA)
Résumé (a CV is different — see notes) · 1 page for under 10 years of experience is the usual guide; 2 pages for senior professionals — follow the posting if it specifies a length
In the US, a résumé (1–2 pages, industry) is not a CV (long, academic/medical). Apply with a résumé unless the posting explicitly requests a CV.
Canada
Résumé / CV · 1–2 pages
Canadian employers value volunteer work and community involvement more than most markets — include it.
Oceania
Australia
Résumé / CV (the terms are used interchangeably) · 2–4 pages is common for experienced professionals — many employers recommend no more than 3, so check the ad
Government and public-sector roles require addressing 'key selection criteria' point by point — a strong cover letter alone is not enough.
New Zealand
CV · 2–3 pages
NZ employers are informal but thorough: a genuine, specific cover letter carries real weight.
